Cooking Staples

Keep a supply on hand of the cooking ingredients you use most and replenish them when they get low. Develop your own list. Here's a list to get you started. I've kept it very generic intentionally because you can often substitute ingredients within a listed group.

  • flour
  • milk
  • eggs
  • butter
  • bread
  • fresh/frozen/canned vegetables
  • fresh/frozen meat
  • frozen/canned fish (buy fresh fish only to serve immediately)
  • cooking oil and spray
  • vinegar
  • rice
  • pasta
  • cheese
  • canned/dried beans
  • fruit juice
  • fresh/canned/dried fruit
  • fresh/dried herbs
  • baking powder/soda
  • herbs and spices
  • extracts (vanilla, lemon, etc)
  • sugar/honey/molasses
  • baking powder/soda
  • yeast (keep refrigerated)
